As part of the interdisciplinary nature of its members, the IFR MARRES is involved in a number of scientific networks and programs, and represents UCA on various bodies. IFR members actively participate in Research Groups (GdR) and sit on the boards of other research federations or national infrastructures, while funding programs for thematic research and innovation networks, supporting the collaboration between different countries within the European Commission.

National Networks

The Research Groups (GdR)

The Research Groups, launched by the CNRS, aim to bring together scientists working on the same themes, in order to amplify the excellence of French research. GdRs encourage interaction between scientists from all over France who are interested in similar questions using complementary approaches. IFR MARRES is a member of several GdRs:

  • The Research Group (GdR) - Ocean & Sea (Omer) was created in 2020 by the CNRS. With a view to interdisciplinarity, Omer's scientific advisory board has set up a GdR structured along four lines, combining "hard sciences" and research "in line with society's expectations" through law, economics, philosophy and history. The aim is to "understand the health of the oceans, but also how it is perceived".
  • The GdR on stem cells (GDR3740) which aims to study fundamental questions in stem cell biology.
The Institute for Peace and Development (IdPD)

Created in 1968, the IdPD has become the Université Côte d'Azur component responsible for achieving the university's contribution to peace and development.
They develop multidisciplinary activities in these fields, based on an initial foundation of expertise in international and European law.
Professor Jean-Christophe Martin, representative of the LADIE laboratory on the IFR, is also Director of the IdPD.

National Center for Marine Biological Resources (EMBRC)

The EMBRC offers the scientific community and other organizations, a complete set of services for accessing and studying marine biodiversity and coastal, Mediterranean and Atlantic ecosystems, on site or remotely.
Eric Rottinger, President of IFR MARRES, is involved in the EMBRC as the President of the Council.

Mediterranean Sea Cluster

The ambition of the Mediterranean Sea Cluster is to sustainably develop the maritime and coastal economy in the Mediterranean basin and worldwide, by fostering innovative projects and supporting the development of companies.

In the southern Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Occitanie and Corsica regions, the cluster brings together scientific and economic players to address maritime and coastal issues with high safety and sustainability implications.
The IFR's founding laboratories and the Université Côte d'Azur are members of this cluster.

Marine Universities Network (RUM)

IFR MARRES is part of the Marine Universities Network. Created in 2010, by the union of several French universities specialized in marine sciences, their missions are to develop research, observation and student training in all subjects related to the sea.
Connected to the Université Côte d'Azur, the IFR MARRES is an integral part of this network.

European and International Networks

COST

At European level, COST - European Cooperation in Science and Technology - is a networking program for research and innovative communities present in the European countries. Its aim is to strengthen scientific and technological research by supporting cooperation through networking activities. The COST program mainly finances the COST Action, which federates one or more research and innovative communities around a scientific and/or technological theme.

The IFR MARRES is part of several COST Actions, such as :

  • COST Action Ocean4Biotech (ICN, IRCAN)
  • COST Action MARISTEM (IRCAN)
INTERREG

INTERREG is one of the European Union's (EU) main instruments for supporting cross-border cooperation through project funding. Its aim is to jointly tackle common challenges and find shared solutions in fields such as health, the environment, research, education, transport, sustainable energy, etc.

IFR MARRES has been invited to join the actions organized by INTERREG Bblue as part of a European project on blue biotechnologies.
