From marine resource conservation to health and well-being

The ocean as a whole is a critical resource for the future of humanity: it ensures the climate regulation of the planet, participates in the feeding of the world’s population, and represents a biological diversity that is still essentially unexplored, yet already severely endangered due to anthropogenic effects that are also linked to the ongoing climate change. The oceans, which border the coasts of France, as well as its overseas territories, are home to wealthy marine resources (biological, energy, mining, etc.) whose exploitation is more or less sustainable.

The Federative Research Institut (IFR) for Marine Resources (MARRES), aims to bring together the multi-disciplinary skills of the Université Côte d'Azur to understand the function, maintenance, and sustainability of marine resources. The IFR MARRES goal is to structure research between the various disciplines in this field within the Université Côte d'Azur in order to create new synergies to support and develop collective, ambitious, local, national, and international research on marine resources.

Catalyst of Innovation & Territorial Anchorage

Combining in a synergic way various disciplines such as ecology, biology (including biomedicine), chemistry, physics, mathematics, geology, law, economics, as well as human and social sciences, the IFR creates a dynamic entity that evaluates and valorizes marine resources in a holistic way. Because of its multidisciplinary nature, IFR MARRES is in close contact with local authorities, and socio-economic actors and is involved in several regional, national, and European networks.

Each line and shade of blue represents the diversity of the research units that make up the IFR MARRES as well as the multiple disciplines and study areas in the field of marine resources of the University.

The opening of the circle indicates a desire to welcome all the units of the Université Côte d'Azur with a link to marine resources in the dynamics of the IFR, while also, exchanging with the scientific and socio-economic sector of our territory.

The Federative Institute of Research - Marine Resources, through these multi and interdisciplinary approaches, focuses on influencing the importance of conserving and developing marine resources for the well-being and health of our planet!
